Sand pump type PS is a horizontal, centrifugal sand pump with side suction. It is used to transfer gritty-like fluid such as the slurry with concentrates and tailings from an ore dresser, the medium from a coal washery, the high temperature crystallizing liquid in an aluminum plant as well as the slurry in a cement plant .
The maximum concentration of the transported liquid: 60-70% by weight.
The wetted parts of the sand pump type PS are made of wear-resistant alloys, and have a longer service life and easy inspection and maintenance. Two inlets are provided at custom's choice according to the plant layout. The wearing parts (impeller, wearing plate, pump casing) can be dismantled without removing the pipe and the motor, and a lifting device is provided for hoisting the pump casing (The type 21/2 PS pumps has not such device). The clearance between the impeller and the wearing plate may be adjusted to keep the flow rate constant and high efficiency.
The shaft seal is a low-pressure packing seal of simple and reliable construction. When the pump is in operation, it is necessary to induce small amount of clean water for lubricating and cooling. The pump keeps a certain prime capability ,but usually it should be placed at a lower position for a submergenee.
